General

The beautiful Heritage Bungalow At Mudigere

This Heritage Bungalow At Mudigere is set amidst a 400-acre coffee plantation and truly reflects our country’s coffee heritage.

This Heritage Bungalow At Mudigere is a serene abode amidst lush greenery. A short stay or a long one, this estate is sure to leave you charmed forever.

This Heritage Bungalow At Mudigere has been featured in the 2011 issue of Outlook Traveller. While the Planter’s Room can house two adults, in addition to two children if need be, the two-room Guest Suite fits in four—two people in each. There is also The Coffee Cottage, a spacious premium cottage, that has a well-appointed bedroom with huge windows providing spectacular views. The cottage is situated in an annex. These apart, there are Cardamom Suites with three luxurious rooms having a common hall equipped with a fireplace. Truly a place to cozy around. While one of the rooms at Cardamom Suites provides for a sit-out, with a lovely view of the coffee plantation, the other opens out on the lawns and bonfire.

The Heritage Bungalow At Mudigere has an all-day open kitchen. So, you can enjoy a cup of tea/coffee anytime and it will be served at your behest. The food served here also introduces you to various local cuisines and cooking styles. The cook welcomes suggestions to temper the taste or spice of food, according to your preferences which can be gently passed through the caretaker.

This estate is nature’s lovely gift. Among some of the fascinating places to visit near the estate is the point of origin of the River Hemavathi. The 26-km-road covering the estate is also the perfect path for cycling, walking, or a lazy stroll soaking in the greenery around. If a quiet getaway in nature’s lap is your idea of a holiday, then this is the place to spend your precious time and money.

Things to do

The bungalow is great for spending time in solitude. Walk along the plantation roads or explore nature’s beauty in the form of waterfalls or take up bird watching. The place is situated just right for sightseeing and exploration. The guests can choose to either drive, cycle, or walk (to local places). Just above the estate, a couple of kilometers away, is the place where the River Hemavathi originates. There is also a temple where you can spend some quiet time in contemplation.

Tea estates and tea factory visits are possible if the necessary permits are granted. Further, scenic drives can be undertaken to places such as Kudremukh-Kalasa, about 60 km (app 1 hr 30 mins) away, Horanadu, and Sringeri for temple visits, as well as Agumbe, known as the Cherrapunji of the South and Kemmangundi. While Agumbe is famous for its sunset point, Kemmangundi is home to the mesmerizing Hebbe falls and Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary.

And if lazing around the premises is what you wish to do, just plop yourself down in the hammock with a book and cup of tea/coffee in hand.

How to reach

This Heritage Bungalow is about 277 km (approx 5 hrs) away from Bangalore. Driving from Bangalore city, first, take Tumkur Road till Nelamangala. Then take the Mangalore Highway. As a landmark, you will pass a Coffee Day outlet just before Hassan, one at Belur Cross, and another after Channarayapatna. You will also find a Kamat Restaurant after Channarayapatna.

Continue travelling from Hassan to Belur, take a left towards Mudigere at the circle, once you enter the town. Cross a bridge and find a Y-fork (with the 3rd road going to the left). Both these roads go to Mudigere, however, take the main road that goes straight.

The road is motor-able and one can also have a quick stop at the Belur Temple. At Mudigere town, take a left towards a small town called Handpost. Then at the circle, you need to take a right. You will also pass by a rice mill on your left. Keep moving towards Kottegehara and from there take the road towards Kalasa. Just after Balur Village, take the left U-hairpin bend towards Kalasa/Kudremukh.
